Generators turning Mechanical Energy into Electrical

A generator is the source of electricity production. Before knowing the relation of amalgamated nature of magnetism and electricity; two main branches in Physics, electrostatic generators were in use having the feature of generating low current but they were not being used for commercially based purposes. An electrical generator is a device that changes mechanical energy into electrical energy and is based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction according to which when a coil is rotated in a magnetic field by some mechanical means, magnetic flux through the coil changes, and consequently an emf is produced in the coil. If the generator is connected with an external circuit, an electric current is the output of the generator. The source of mechanical energy may be solar energy, water falling through the turbine, steam engine or any other source of mechanical energy.

A.C. generators are not suitable for many applications, e.g. to run a D.C. Motor. In1834, William Sturgeon invented a simple device called a commutator that prevents the direction of current from changing. Therefore, a D.C. generator is similar to the A.C. generator in construction with the difference that slip rings are replaced by split rings. The dynamo is the very first D.C. generator that converts mechanical rotation through the use of commutator into a direct current and it is used in industry. Other types of generators are human driven electrical generators that use human pedal power to power by then there are generators called hydrogen generator driven by Hydrogen. They are used in the industrial market places like petroleum refineries and glass manufacturing. They are also utilized in medical and research applications to produce high purified quality of hydrogen. Now some generators making companies are trying to introduce hydrogen powered generators for the remote areas where there is a want of electricity. The benefit of hydrogen power must need a look of consideration as it will certainly provide a clean power coming or going.

Somehow akin to a motor pump that extracts water rather than creating water, a generator also moves an electric current instead of creating an electric charge. Maximum power can be obtained by making the resistance of load_ a device in the circuit that consume electrical energy_ equivalent to that of the generator.

Some more dynamic generators are engine generator- use piston engines and gas turbines to work for, vehicle mounted generator, magnet hydrodynamic generator (MHD) _originally introduced for their efficiency of  producing a flame to produce heat in the boilers of steam power plant_, rotating electromagnetic generators such as synchronous singly fed generator, asynchronous singly fed generator, doubly fed generators. They all have the efficiency, durability and cost according to the demands of buyers.

The wide spread of industry has brought about a significant revolution all over the world, with the mounted rise of industry generators’ significance can not be put aside. Generators have made it possible to produce more and more electrical energy to pave the way to progress and welfare of industry. There are different merchants and leading companies dealing in the production of generators, they at the same time deal with the purchasing and buying of used generators.
